AC Bergen-Fischer

AC Bergen-Fischer is a writer, life coach, husband, and father of two adult children. His life and work have given him a longstanding interest in how relationships change, how people understand one another, and why two people can experience the same relationship so differently.

His interest in skepticism and epistemology shapes much of how he approaches the world. He is interested in what people believe, how they came to believe it, and how certain any of us can reasonably be about what we think we know. His own thinking remains open to revision, and he is comfortable with “I don’t know” when certainty isn’t warranted. Equality is central to how he approaches people, including those whose experiences and conclusions differ from his own.

His father had a profound influence on that approach. Although AC came to disagree with many of his father’s conclusions, the influence remained. His father helped shape how he thinks, even when he didn’t determine what AC would think.

AC works with people navigating family estrangement and other difficult relationships. He has also spent years podcasting and writing about relationships, belief, identity, and the complicated ways people make sense of their experiences. His wife is his most frequent sounding board and literary conscience, often helping him recognize when an idea needs another look.

Away from writing and coaching, AC enjoys exploring abandoned places and searching for objects left behind around them, late-night swims, cooking, painting, and a good debate. He lives with his wife in Osoyoos, British Columbia.
